One of the trends concerning authorities before Yomtov is the smuggling of illegal meat and eggs into Israel. Agriculture Ministry inspectors are doing their utmost to prevent illegal products from entering the marketplace. Just last week able 488,233 eggs, a ton of meat and poultry, and 676kg of cheeses were confiscated.
Over the weekend an illegal slaughterhouse was discovered inside a home in the city of Lod. The meat found on the premises was confiscated and a number of persons were arrested.
In one case, a truck was carrying 4 tons of meat originating in PA (Palestinian Authority) areas heading to areas inside Israel proper. The truck was apprehended at a Shomron checkpoint. A resident of the center of the country, a man in his 30s, was detained for questioning.
An illegal egg operation was discovered over the weekend in the Hebron district. In this case, the eggs were stamped to resemble approved eggs sold in Israel. The eggs and other materials were confiscated along with “kosher for Pesach” stamps used on eggs.

Why are there any restrictions on importing eggs? Is there an issue they are from a non-kosher bird? Meet and cheese are kashrus issues, but eggs?
If their are inspection issues, this should not be a problem to resolve. Consumers benefit from imports (though Israeli farmers don’t). Lower food prices, especially of something like eggs, disproportionately helps poor consumers.
