New York’s comptroller reports approving 1.2 million personal tax refunds in February for $1 billion.
In its monthly report, the comptroller’s office, responsible for reviewing state contracts and payments, says it also approved $116.8 million for 19,000 corporate and other tax refunds and $44 million for 325,000 property tax freeze credits.
At the same time, the office rejected more than 2,000 tax refunds valued at more than $4 million.
Other approved payments were $1.3 million by the state Department of Education to Public Consulting Group Inc. to develop Common Core learning standards, $35 million to help more than 69,000 New Yorkers with home heating or heat-related emergencies and $1.6 million to Morton Salt Inc. for road salt.
