YWN warned all our readers on Motzei Shabbos about multiple fraudulent online fundraisers that were launched on behalf of the Sassoon family. Since we published that, at least three scams have been shut down thanks to the readership of YWN, and police have already launched investigations into another. But today, once again another online fundraiser has been launched. There is apparently no shortage of horrible people looking to take advantage of tragedy and use it to scam innocent people out of money.
We are once again warning our readers not to give any money to these fundraisers as they are fraudulent.
On Monday, NYS Assemblyman Dov Hikind sent YWN a press release.
“We have been in touch with the Sassoon family’s rabbi who made it clear that there is no legitimate fund established for the family at this time,” explained Hikind.
“Our community is enormously impacted by this disaster and not surprisingly everyone wants to help, so we’re viewed as ripe for this type of scam which targets people when they are emotional and vulnerable. If and when there is a legitimate fund established at any time, we will share the information.”
YWN will publish any legitimate fundraisers should they be launched.
PLEASE SHARE THIS TO PREVENT PEOPLE FROM GIVING SCAM ARTISTS MONEY.
