Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams has been joined by local elected officials and Jewish community activists, who have been deeply impacted by the tragic fire in Midwood over Shabbos. They are outside of FDNY headquarters at MetroTech Center, where tare speaking about the need to emphatically respond to this tragedy. Specifically, they are discussing the need for fire safety education.
Additionally, Borough President Adams is calling for the creation of a burn center in Brooklyn which, despite being home to the fourth-largest population in the United States, currently has no such facility; the Sassoon family’s mother and one of her daughters are currently in critical condition at burn centers in the Bronx and Staten Island, respectively, after sustaining severe burns and smoke inhalation.

doesnt this position of boro president have a budget of some $100 million? so why doesnt he then he fund it?
We don’t need a burn center Staten Island is 15 min or less drive that’s plenty close enough. Burn centers are for long term care of burns. any truma center should be able to handle a burn till they the person gets transported to burn center later. sound like they playing politics.
Moderators Note: 15 minutes from Boro Park….Did you know that Brooklyn is not just Boro Park? Apparently not.
Do you know that the whole state of New Jersey has one burn center. It’s in Livingston about 2 hrs from Lakewood. I’m fully aware of the geographics of Brooklyn but it would not save a single life having a burn center in Brooklyn. And yes Staten Island by helicopter from anywhere in Brooklyn is 15 or less. Fire safety however would save many many lives.
How come nobody is mentioning the name of the hot plate mfg? How about the store where it was bought. Maybe they have a bad lot of them?
Seven lives lost and the consumer product safety commission should get involved.
