Election Update: 09:15 IL – Yahadut Hatorah Down a Seat

Israeli Elections -2015 - Jerusalem and Kiryat Sefer - BW Posen - Kuvien Images -011As the counting of the final votes continues, there are likely to be some changes. At present it appears that Likud will remain with 30 votes, but Yahadut Hatorah is dropping from seven to six seats.

Meretz may also earn a fifth seat at the expense of the Arab bloc, which would drop from 14 to 13, but this is yet to be determined.

  1. If the chareidim lose a seat and likud has 29, then likud, Bennet, kachlon, shas, and UTJ will be only sixty. If lieberman then refuses to sit with chareidim, kachlon goes to Herzog and the chareidim are done.

  2. The same thing will again happen in every future election, with Degel/UTJ losing a seat or two every election unless they reunify with the Yerushalmi/Bnei Torah faction. Degel/UTJ will have to bite their pride and compromise with the Yerushalmi/Bnei Torah faction and give them some of what they ask for.

Otherwise Degel/UTJ can expect in the future to indefinitely remain one or two less MKs below than they’ve been in the past with the Yerushalmi/Bnei Torah faction again voting against UTJ.

It’s Degel’s call. It’s like what happened some decades back when Degel broke off from Agudah and they ended up losing a seat.

  3. had they included the yerushalmi faction in their coalition then they wouldve not lost that one seat. while I’m happy for us chareidim; this little punishment serves them right.
