Assemblyman Dov Hikind (D-Brooklyn) and his colleagues in the Assembly are calling on NY State Governor Andrew Cuomo to keep his word and make Education Investment Tax Credits a reality once and for all. Hikind and 11 of his fellow elected officials are reaching out to parents of children in private and parochial schools across their districts urging them to contact the Governor’s office and stress the urgency for long overdue tuition relief.
“Parents in our community have waited a long time for this much-deserved relief. We won’t stop fighting for this until it’s passed,” vowed Hikind. “Every year, a critical segment of New York’s population is unfairly excluded from our State’s education equation. Parents who opt to send their children to religious and private schools save New York State an astronomical amount of money. The Education Investment Tax Credits Act would make it possible for New York to finally give something back to these parents and provide the much needed relief that they deserve.
“Governor Cuomo made it clear that he agrees. He called Education Investment Tax Credits justice when he visited our communities. There was no talk about connecting this to the Dream Act or anything else. Now it’s time for the Governor to deliver Education Investment Tax Credits with no strings attached.
“I’m proud to stand with my colleagues in the Assembly in this urgent appeal to Governor Cuomo. It’s important that parents add their voices now and not let this opportunity to achieve this historical legislation pass us by.”
Hikind and his colleagues urge parents to call the Governor’s Office in Albany at 1-518-474-8390 or in Manhattan at 1-212-681-4579. “Don’t wait,” said Hikind. “These calls are truly critical.”
