Yishai’s Letter to Aryeh Deri On Eve Of Election Day

2Yachad leader Eli Yishai has sent an open letter to Shas leader Eli Yishai in which he speaks about putting differences aside and working for the common good following elections. He speaks about locking arms to combat the gezeiros against the frum tzibur, working to assist the weaker citizens and to assist the hungry.

“I call on you as a former colleague, one who has to his merit dozens of laws to assist the weaker families, thousands of talmidei torah, yeshivos, mikvaos and countless zechus, let’s joins forces as Election Day nears. Now is not the time for war and each person will vote in line with his rav’s instructions but we must remembers that on the day following elections we will need each vote in Knesset when the harsh gezeiros that may harm us are brought up – we must stand firm as a wall against them”.

“…The time has come to join hands and put differences aside…” explaining the importance of uniting for each vote counts and unity in face of what the frum community and the weaker elements of society face is essential.

  1. Don’t make so much out of it.

With a parliamentary system (legislature chooses the Prime Minister, unlike the US “checks and balances”), and proportional represenation (you vote for a party not a candidate) THIS IS NORMAL.

In the election you are running against those whose ideology is closest to your own, since that’s whom your supporters are considering switching to, and vice versa. Thus today, Shas and Yachad are mortal enemies. In 24 hours they will switch to coalition forming mode, and those closest to you in ideology (yesterday’s mortal enemies) are your best friends.
