Among the speakers addressing the Eretz Yisrael Rally at Kikar Rabin on Sunday night 24 Adar was Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu. The prime minister took advantage of the event held 36 hours before polls open in the 20th Knesset elections to engage the crowd, hoping to gain additional votes with Likud, which according to the polls is lagging behind Labor by a number of seats.
The prime minister promised the Bayit Yehudi party will be a senior coalition partner, emphasizing how he will continue protecting Israel as opposed to a left-wing coalition that will make additional land concessions to the PA (Palestinian Authority). He lauded his coalition’s accomplishments as countries around the world succumbed to the global economic crisis, yet under his direction, Israel’s economy remains stable.
The prime minister during his campaign has urged right-wing voters to vote Likud, explaining that without a strong Likud the presidential mandate to form a coalition may fall into the hands of the left-wing. This is why he stressed Bayit Yehudi will be a senior coalition partner in his next coalition, hoping to persuade voters to back Likud.
Other speakers included Bayit Yehudi leader Naftali Bennett, and former Likud Minister Dr. Binyamin Begin.
