The Rockaway Nassau Safety Patrol (RNSP Shomrim) and the NYPD have issued an alert for a person wanted in connection with two attempted child abductions on Shabbos afternoon in the Far Rockaway community.
Sources tell YWN that the first incident happened around 1:30PM, and occurred at the intersection of Mott Avenue and Bay 24th Street. An 11-year-old boy was walking home from an early Mincha, when suddenly a vehicle stopped and the driver exited and began yelling at the child to get into the vehicle. The boy ran as fast as he could to the closest house he could recognize – which happened to have a Shomrim member there at the time. The member quickly called for backup as well as notified the NYPD.
They began canvassing the area looking for the vehicle and the suspect which was described as a black Nissan Altima, 2002-2005. The driver was described as a black male 30-40 years old, wearing all black and a black cap with red lettering. He is approximately 5 foot 8, and weighs 220 pounds.
Additionally, NYPD Detectives began searching for security camera footage in the area. While they were doing that, at around 3:15PM – two hours after the first incident – a 14-year-old girl informed her parents that a vehicle stopped at Mott Avenue and Sunnyside Avenue and attempted to lure her into the vehicle. She described the driver and the vehicle identical to the first incident.
Police are taking this very seriously and intense NYPD investigation is underway.
If you have any information which can assist the police investigation, or if you see this vehicle, please call 911 immediately, as well as the RNSP 24-hour Hotline at 917-727-7306.
