The Supreme Court on Wednesday, 20 Adar, rejected a petition from ACRI (Association for Civil Rights in Israel) which challenged security inspections in Ben-Gurion International Airport. The court explained that changes in regulations governing the security inspections influenced their decision.
The recent petition was based on the original ACRI petition filed in 2007, which stated security inspections discriminated against Arab travelers and are generally harsher than the same inspection conduced on Jewish travelers.
The explained it is aware of that petition and the possible compromise the basic rights of some travelers, resulting in a discriminatory policy. However, conducting a strict security check on each and every traveler would compromise airport operations.
The court added that finding a balance between protecting one’s basic rights while addressing legitimate security concerns is a most difficult assignment. The court adds that an act of terrorism on a flight would likely lead to loss of life.
ACRI officials expressed disappointment over the court’s ruling.

Once going through LAX, two Arabs who were obviously Arabs, speaking Arabic were in front of me. They went through with no extra check.
Me, a elderly man, was told to step aside and was given a total body check and more. I asked why me? I was told, it just random, every so often we take one person and check him thoroughly.
I prefer the Israeli system when they look at the person and speak with him. Then make a determination and then check.
But then TSA is basically people who can’t think; just follow orders.
