Outbursts Disrupt NYPD Budget Hearing

nypd2Demonstrators protesting NYPD policies forced a budget meeting to stop as security guards cleared the public from the City Council chambers.

Police Commissioner William Bratton was giving budget requests to the City Council on Thursday.

About five protesters started yelling, one at a time, and were escorted out.

About two dozen people watching started shouting that the NYPD was racist and City Council members were “sellouts” for working with the NYPD.

Protesters targeted the “broken windows” style of policing, which is Bratton’s signature policy.

It took a few minutes to clear the chambers.

Bratton took the outburst in stride.

He quipped: “As Jimmy Durante used to say: ‘Everybody wants to get into the act.'”
