A Miami Beach rabbi is concerned for the safety of his congregation, after a man allegedly threatened a group of them over the weekend.
Rabbi Pinchas Weberman has been the head rabbi at the Ovhev Shalom Synagogue for over 54 years. He is also the chaplain for Miami Beach Police and Miami-Dade Police.
According to Weberman, the incident happened Saturday night outside of his synagogue. “A group of young men were outside in the front lawn, sitting on the benches, and they were approached by somebody screaming, ‘I’m gonna cut your heads off,’ and ‘Alhu Akbar’ they went and called the police. They used the term that the terrorists used when they killed the infidels.”
Weberman’s son was among the group of people sitting outside the synagogue. He said the man who approached his son was arrested, and he wants the case investigated as a hate crime. “I never like to over exaggerate and I don’t like to minimize,” said Weberman, “so what I do is, I report this to law enforcement agencies, those that I feel are responsible for it and those that I feel will take a professional approach to it and handle it.”
Miami Beach Police patrolled the synagogue Tuesday, to ensure the safety of the congregation.
“I like the Jewish community to be aware of these things,” said Weberm
