While the Shlomei Emunim faction of Yahadut Hatorah is working to get the party to commit to backing Binyamin Netanyahu, this is not likely to occur before Election Day on 26 Adar. Shlomei Emunim officials are aware that Yahadut Hatorah has likely lost most of the Chabad vote to Yachad, and Breslov and others may soon follow suit. One of the problems stems from statements made by Degel Hatorah faction leader Moshe Gafne, which portray an air of left-wing politics and a willingness to possibly recommend Yitzchak Herzog for the presidential mandate to form the next coalition government.
Many feel that if Yahadut Hatorah announces its backing for Binyamin Netanyahu to form the next coalition it would benefit Yahadut Hatorah in the polls. However, it is now reported that the Moetzas Gedolei Yisrael will not convene to announce its decision as to whom it should back for prime minister until after elections.
Yahadut Hatorah MK are trying to exhibit optimism in the hope of earning an eighth seat. Most polls show the party at seven seats.

If UTJ and Deri’s Shas support Labor, then Herzog will be prime minister in a few months. It might be time for change.
If Likud, Bayit Yehudi and Yisrael Beiteinu continue with the plan to conscript/imprison yeshiva students, Yahadut ha-Torah and Shas will have no option but to support Herzog/Livni IF (AND ONLY IF) the Labor-led coalition is willing to repeal the conscription law.
Labor will give the Chareidim ANYTHING if it enables them to rule Israel.

If Israel goes through with the plan to conscript yeshiva students, and throw in jail any who refuse, including those who assist them such as rabbanim, and to seize funds raised abroad to support Torah learning – why not prefer the alternative. Preferably the nationalists will give up their plan, but if not, try Labor. If that doesn’t work, Yahadut ha-Torah is discredited, and the Eidis Hareidis becomes (some would say, returns) as the leader of the hareidi community, and you get a unified Eretz Yisrael with Jerusalem as a capital (only it will be call Palestine with al Quds as the capital). A zionist state the surpresses Torah is worse than a Palestinian state.
