The White House says the one-week extension of Homeland Security funding passed by Congress reflects the “failed leadership” of Republicans in Congress.

President Barack Obama signed the extension Friday just minutes before funding was to run out. It’s still unclear how Congress will fund the agency beyond the end of this week.

White House spokesman Josh Earnest says Obama was disappointed he had to sign a one-week extension. Obama and Democrats want a full-year funding bill that doesn’t include language repealing Obama’s immigration actions.

Earnest says it’s ironic that Republican leaders had claimed their new majority would allow Congress to start functioning again. He says it’s been exactly the opposite and that House Republican leadership has been an “abject failure.”
