HaGaon HaRav Meir Mazuz Shlita released a statement that Yachad leader Eli Yishai is quite capable of reading Hebrew without vowels despite recent statements released by Rabbi David Yosef to the contrary. Rav Mazuz added Rav David’s statements are lies.
Rav Mazuz added Maran HaGaon HaRav Ovadia Yosef ZT”L would greet and accept everyone with warmth, explaining that when Noam Shalit came to see him, Maran cried along with the father, feeling his pain. “He knew that Noam was not observant and that his son Gilad did not but a Jew is a Jew and that is how we must act to bring everyone closer” explained the rav.
Rav Mazuz then questioned if anyone actually believes that a deputy prime minister is incapable of reading Hebrew without vowels, pointing out the absurdity of the statements leveled against Yishai. “They come down on him and it is a lie – no truth to it. We accept every person and every Jew as they are” Rav Mazuz added.

We dont know Eli Yishai’s true level of scholarship; but WHY ISNT MR DERI’s level of lomdus being discussed @ the same time??

Oh, I just figured this was some kind of Israeli figure of speech that cannot be literally translated. Some equivalent in English might be,”He can’t walk and chew gum at the same time,” which in either case insults someone’s intelligence, is an ad-hominem tactic, and generally comes from people who have no way to argue on the actual issues. It is all a big, big shame. Unless this is a Purim joke???
