During a High Court session on Monday 4 Adar, Justices Yoram Danziger, Noam Solberg and Uzi Fogelman heard a petition filed by attorney Uri Kedar in the name of MK (Shas) David Azoulai. The matter of how chareidi kindergartens are targeted by discrimination within the chareidi education system.
The court instructed the Ministry of Education, which is now headed temporarily by the prime minister, to probe the matter in-depth and to respond to the court after comparing the funding for the chareidi kindergartens as compared to the state kindergartens. Kedar explained the kindergartens cannot receive less funding per child just because they are chareidi. “They learn everything but receive less without justification”.
At the end of the hearing Azoulai said “The High Court’s decision will open the door for dramatic change vis-à-vis the ministry’s attitude towards tens of thousands of transparent children in the chareidi system”.
