The Central Election Committee on Wednesday, 29 Shevat rejected a petition filed against the Yom L’Yom and Yated Neeman chareidi newspapers. The U’Vezcuhtan organization promotes chareidi women entering politics and opposes the newspapers, which have refused to accept their ads which portray women. They explained to Central Election Committee Chairmen Salim Jubran that the ads were rejected with the explanation the newspapers’ vaad rejected them for they are contrary to halacha.
The women explain Yated officials told them the newspaper does not accept ads from any party other than its own, and this includes Shas. It was explained this is based on the party’s hashkafa and it is the newspaper’s policy.
Jubran backed the newspapers, explaining they have the right to reject ads that do not conform to their policies and hashkafa. In addition, Jubran explained the newspapers are not under his jurisdiction. State Attorney General Yehuda Weinstein backed Jubran’s position.

Most Israeli newspapers are affiliated with political movements. It would be absurd to require a newspaper to carry ads for someone else’s movement.
