New York officials say they will have 80 free tax assistance sites statewide.

Taxpayers can qualify for the free service if they earn $60,000 or less a year. The sites feature software that allows users to file their returns electronically. Tax Department volunteers staff the sites.

Tax officials are helping to cut the ribbon on a site in downtown Albany on Wednesday.

Taxes are due by April 15.
