Thousands of people are signing up for health insurance this weekend as a federal deadline looms.
They may not realize it, but their coverage under President Barack Obama’s health care law could be short-lived.
The 2015 enrollment season — which ends Sunday — so far hasn’t had a website meltdown like last year. But a Supreme Court case could lead to millions of people losing financial assistance for their premiums later this year.
The law’s opponents argue that the federal government can subsidize coverage only for people in states that set up their own insurance markets. Most states have not.
Sign-up season in most states ends at 11:59 p.m. Pacific time on Sunday.
The Supreme Court case will be argued March 4. No one knows how the court will rule.
