AG Weinstein: PM Netanyahu’s Congressional Address May be Aired

bibTo the chagrin of the Israeli left-wing, Attorney General Yehuda Weinstein’s Office has informed the Central Election Committee there is no reason that the upcoming congressional address by Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu cannot be aired in Israel.

Officials in the attorney general’s office explain that the prime minister has been consulting with legal experts in his office to set boundaries as to what may and may not be said in the address. In addition, Weinstein’s staff explained the prime minister is well-aware of the election law in Israel and bottom line is the address will be a news item and not electioneering.

MK Zahava Gal-On who heads the radical left-wing Meretz party does not agree and she hopes Justice Salim Jubran, chairman of the Central Election Committee will not accept Weinstein’s ruling. Gal-On feels that a synopsis of the prime minister’s address will be more than sufficient and the nation does not have to hear the entire address.
