FBI Director: US At Crossroads On Race Relations, Policing

fbiFBI Director James Comey says the country is at a “crossroads” on matters of race relations and law enforcement.

He says the United States must confront hard truths following the deaths of Michael Brown in Missouri and Eric Garner in New York, and the slayings of two New York police officers.

In remarks prepared for a speech Thursday at Georgetown University, Comey says that police officers who work in neighborhoods where most street crime is committed by young black men may be tempted to make what he calls a “mental shortcut.”

But he says it’s also important to acknowledge that minorities in poor neighborhoods too often inherit a “legacy of crime and prison.”

  1. Actually “no” it isn’t.

African Americans are increasingly becoming integrated in the mainstream of American society, and skin color (as opposed to ethnicty) has ceased to be a factor in anything except ads for women’s cosmetics. The percentage of African American police, and lawyers, and judges, etc., has risen steadily.

“Class” is a growing problem, “skin color” isn’t.
