Yahadut Hatorah MK Moshe Gafne met with Defense Minister Moshe Ya’alon in an effort to intercede on behalf of talmidei yeshiva who are currently jailed for failing to report to the IDF induction center. Gafne arrived in the senior minister’s Tel Aviv office on Wednesday morning 22 Shevat.
Gafne’s aides’ report the meeting was arranged a number of days ago and it was arranged to address a number of issues. However, no information regarding what was discussed is being released to the media officially.
Kikar reports it tried to ascertain if Gafne tried to intercede towards gaining the release of talmidim who follow HaGaon HaRav Shmuel Auerbach Shlita and did not report to the induction center. His aides explained Gafne works year-round to assist anyone he can without inspecting their tzitzis and receives and acts on requests from all communities inside and out of the chareidi tzibur.
About two weeks ago, four talmidim from the so-called “Yerushalmi branch” were arrested by IDF authorities for failing to respond to an induction notice. Those arrests sparked daily protests around Israel.
Ion a recent media interview, Gafne explained his children are in yeshiva, not taking part in the violent protests.
