How Far the Israeli Left Will Go to Topple the Right-Wing Government

bibAccording to Likud party officials, a new video released entitled “Commander for Israel’s Security” is the latest Israeli left-wing effort to unseat Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and his right-wing government. Speaking to the people in the video are former high-ranking IDF officers including former Chief of Staff and Air Force Commander Dan Halutz.

The video was aired by Channel 2 News, showing Halutz’s attack against the current administration. It should be pointed out that Halutz, who was the first-ever IAF commander to become chief of staff, was forced to step down in disgrace following his glaring failures during the Second Lebanon War.

Those behind the video refused to disclose the source of funding for the project, but Channel 2’s Amit Segal reported the main funds for the project came from Texas businessman Daniel Lubetzky, who is aligned with the V15 organization seeking to oust Netanyahu.

Yisrael Hayom report “Lubetzky, a Jewish-American billionaire, is also the founder and main funder of OneVoice, which helps finance V15 activity. In total, there are six or seven independent campaigns working to unseat Netanyahu.

  1. In a democracy, the idea of an opposition party (Labor, and its allies) is to topple the government party (Likud, and its allies). That’s how it works. Same way in America whether its Republicans vs Democrats, or Federalists vs Democratic Republicans, or in Britain where it was Whigs and Torries (who pioneered with a two party system). Just look in America at how many people are trying to oust Obama?

If one side of the political spectrum wasn’t trying to defeat the other, it wouldn’t be a democracy. It’s a feature, not a bug.

  2. Well, I read the article, and I still don’t know how far the Left will go to topple Israel’s right-wing government. This article has absolutely no information about the content of the subject video, or any other efforts by the Israeli Left to “topple”, i.e., replace through the lawful electoral process, the current government.

  3. As Akuperma noted, in a democracy, opposition parties go out to defeat the ruling party in elections. Does the anonymous author really believe that Israel should not be a democracy?

The last paragraph is particularly disingenuous. Israel HaYom is complaining about a Jewish-American billionaire trying to influence Israeli elections? Why, Israel HaYom’s only purpose is to allow a Jewish-American billionaire to influence Israelis to vote for Netanyahu! Can’t they be a little more subtle in their hypocrisy?
