Chairman of the Central Election Committee retired Supreme Court Justice Salim Jubran has banned Bayit Yehudi Tu B’Shevat packages, labeling them “electioneering”.
Bayit Yehudi used its Facebook page to get the word out, that party activists would be distributing tens of thousands of the packages on Wednesday, Tu B’Shevat.
Someone decided that this is not permissible, and the planned campaign was challenged with a call to the Central Election Committee. The person explain such actions were contrary to the state’s electioneering laws which prohibit the distribution of gifts by a political party. He added that the packages are a form of bribery which party officials hope will influence perspective voters.
Jubran agreed, prohibiting the distribution of the packages nationwide.
