Residents in New York City’s northern suburbs woke up to a mix of snow, sleet and freezing rain.
Early commuters on Monday inched along treacherous, snowy highways.
Schools were closed. Putnam County closed its government offices.
The National Weather Service predicts more snow, freezing rain and sleet all day.
The weather service says three-tenths to half an inch of ice could accumulate in the area, plus another 3 to 5 inches of snow and sleet.
