Israel Police Major-General Kobi Cohen announced his resignation from the department after admitting immoral behavior. Cohen’s admission and subsequent resignation makes him the fifth Israel Police major-general to resign or be forced to resign, all due to their unacceptable actions including involvement in bribery or immoral behavior.
In 2013, Jerusalem Police Chief Niso Shacham was dismissed after he was charged by a female subordinate for his unacceptable actions. In 2014, Jerusalem Police Chief Yossi Pariente resigned in disgrace due to allegations surrounding his immoral behavior. In 2014, the commander of the elite Lahav 433 unit resigned amid allegations pertaining to the Rabbi Yoshiyahu Pinto bribery case and in 2014, Tel Aviv Police Chief Bruno Stein resigned after being photographed in a bribery involved affair.
Cohen is the commander of the Shai (Shomron-Yehuda) district and despite the significance of that post, a replacement will not be appointed ahead of elections in March.
