A shipment of a half-ton of treif meat heading to “Israel proper” from the PA (Palestinian Authority) was intercepted on Wednesday, Rosh Chodesh Shevat by Ministry of Agriculture inspectors.
Inspectors acting on a tip apprehended the vehicle on Route 444 in the center of the country. The meats were confiscated to be destroyed and the person in the vehicle arrested.
While little is done to intercept illegal shipments of beef or poultry regarding kashrus concerns, the state agencies are stricter regarding health issues and usually, as was the case here, shipments are intercepted due to the lack of veterinary certification and/or the lack of adherence to basic health standards.
