During a shiur given by Rabbi Amnon Yitzchak, he explained Maran HaGaon HaRav Ovadia Yosef ZT”L was not opposed to the formation of additional chareidi parties despite what some members of Shas say to the contrary.
During the shiur on Rosh Chodesh Shevat, Rav Amnon said people must cling to Torah and not politics. He spoke about how HaGaon HaRav Shalom Cohen Shlita recently cried, explaining the rav cried because Eli Yishai launched a new party, quoting Rav Cohen saying “There is only one Torah”.
Rav Amnon questioned since when is there one party and since when is anyone and everyone other than Shas disqualified? He reminded the audience that Aryeh Deri on a number of occasions spoke to the media about starting another party, questioning why it is okay for Deri but not Yishai. “Now that Eli Yishai does it they speak about two Torahs and go to the kever and cry so there are photos for the campaign. What are they doing here?”
Rav Amnon explained that Yitzchak Cohen is guaranteed to be in the top five of Shas and he compelled others to sign allegiance. They were compelled. “We see all of them lack Yiras Shomayim and they lie and speak about Rav Ovadia and Rav Shach but just worry about themselves, their families and their money. How can one trust such people…?”
“They continue however to besmirch Eli Yishai, his wife and family despite all he did, all he left you and all he created” the rav added. “These are the representatives of the Sephardim. Instead of returning the glory of the past the opposite is true”.

How true are his words I might not some of his shtik but kulanu benei ish ehad.
Rav Ammon will get heat from shas but so what . When you see Rav David Yosef at the kever of Rav ovadia zl cursing Eli yishai as a destroyer of am Israel.
No disrespect to moatzat hachmei hatorah they need to take an example from Eli yishai on how to behave.
Unfortunately for some shas member it’s about the seat the money and the honor.

It seems quite interesting that most readers on this site side with Eli Yishai and keep on downgrading Deri.
I am not Israeli, not Sephardi, and this doesn’t even interest me as much, yet you all must admit that not all that Yishai did is right as well.
Deri is there in the end of the day under the vaad Rabonim and Yishai went to open his new party without consulting those Rabbonim.
I don’t know who is right and I am not arguing against anything, but it’s humorous how you all suddenly take sides so quickly. If you realise, this whole thing started because Yishai opened his party, this started this politics. Perhaps they could have arranged something together. Ultimately this is Deri’s party!!
