Chief Rabbis from across Europe will today stand united with the people of Paris and France following the recent terrorist attacks.
Chief Rabbi Mirvis of the United Kingdom and Chief Rabbi Guigui of Belgium will attend today’s rally representing both their communities and The Conference of European Rabbis of which they are vice Presidents.
The CER has been working with communal and political leaders across Europe to combat antisemitism and extremism and their work has been brought into particular focus following a string of high profile incidents over the last few months.
Chief Rabbi Pinchas Goldschmidt, President of the Conference of European Rabbis, said:
“The appalling atrocities of the last few days has had a deep and lasting effect on Europe. Our core values have been attacked and I would like to add the voice of the Jewish community to those of the many leaders around the world who stand in solidarity with the people of France.
The brutal attack on defenceless people doing their shopping for Sabbath has left Jews across the world feeling vulnerable. I would like to thank the Muslim communities of Europe which expressed their support at this time, and I truly believe that all the faith communities of Europe should work together to create a safer and more inclusive society, excluding extremists from our midst, who are a danger for the future of Europe.
