Former CIA Director Michael Hayden says the deadly attack on a French satirical newspaper demonstrates “the increased sophistication” of groups bent on terrorism.
Hayden says the armed gunmen seemed “very comfortable in their own skin.”
On NBC’s “Today” show, he calls the assault “the high end of the new genre of attacks.”
Hayden adds that terrorist elements apparently are scaling back their plots, aiming more toward smaller targets and quick hits. Because of this, he says, “now what we have are drive-by shootings” and incidents like the SUV bombing plot against New York’s Times Square. He says larger-scale attacks aimed at causing mass casualties take longer to evolve and are more easily thwarted by law enforcement.
The Obama administration has said that it stands by the French in this crisis.

Wondering what Obama is muttering under his breath and thinking about who is truly to blame for terrorism.
Now that we have read of his brilliant commentary, what does this expert in intelligence suggest? I would grant that one needs to understand a problem before trying to solve it effectively. But we have all these armchair detectives sharing their genius with the world, and all that is accomplished is that we are impressed, and the poor fool gets “likes” on his social media. Yippee! Now how about accomplishing something for real? can we eradicate this threat?
