Ynet reports that PA (Palestinian Authority) Chairman Abu Mazen is discussing his plans with Jordan’s King Abdullah II, to repetition the United Nations Security Council regarding the PA’s bid for statehood. Apparently, the recent defeat suffered in the UN does not deter the PA, nor does Israel’s announced freezing of 500 million NIS in tax revenue funds as part of Jerusalem’s retaliation for the PA’s unilateral actions.
The Security Council vote resulted in eight votes in favor of the bill, including France, Russia and China. Five countries abstained, including the USA, Australia and Britain, and two nations abstained. Most feel that a submitting the request a second time would result in a guaranteed failure. Even if the council approves the resolution, the United States is likely to veto it.
