IDF Gaza Division Commander Brigadier-General Itai Virov released a controversial statement pertaining to the summer’s counter-terrorism offensive against Hamas in Gaza, Operation Protective Edge.
At a time the cabinet is expected to approve removing security personnel from border communities, the senior commander spoke with leaders of communities effected in the hope of relieving some of their concerns.
Virov also spoke with the Ynet website, and surprised many when he justified the decision not to remove Hamas from rule in Gaza. He explained that if the IDF crushed Hamas, then ISIS would have moved in and what is seen today in Sinai would be occurring in Gaza and along Israel’s southern border.
Virov added that this is not to say that Hamas has not taken a beating, emphasizing terrorist regime was hit very hard but it is better for Israel the order was not given to wipe Hamas out.
In another ISIS related matter, the IDF in April launched a new intelligence unit that deals exclusively with the ISIS threat.

LOSER!!! afread of his shadow – boogie man isis waiting.
Do the job first, then worry about isis. FIRE this ”general” and his ilk.
A direct focused attack at nerve center under shifa hosp would have ended the war in 3 days- not 55days- and would have bypassed the worldwide antisemitic explosion and jew murder.
Editors: your article says the opposite of your headline. The article says this General is glad Hamas wasn’t defeated – not that Israel wasn’t defeated against Hamas…
The new age Zionism is willing to admit defeat.
Tell that to the 60+ kedoshim who gave up their lives defending other Yidden.
IDF “intelligence unit” ?
Based on General Virov’s comment this is an oxymoron.
#4, unfortunately these kedoshim all of whom gone straight to olam haba died for nothing, and plus why isnt Ahmed Tibi and Hana Zoabi fighting for Israel, oh thats right Israel kicked out Rabbi Kahane but allows these MK’s that are a fifth column to remain in the cesspool (knesset), we all have to recognize that there is no need to fight the Arabs when the Arabs have won, they are in the knesset.
