MK (Ra’am-Ta’al) Dr. Ahmed Tibi used his recent visit to Har Habayis to provoke conflict by waving a PLO flag which he pulled out on the holy site.
Tibi was on Har Habayis on Shabbos 12 Teves, taking part in an event marking the birthday of the Prophet Mohammad. A few hundred people took part in a march leading to al-Aqsa Mosque to mark the event. Tibi pointed out the event was peaceful. He used the forum to announce “al-Quds (Jerusalem) is Arab and the capital of Palestine and al-Aqsa is the place of worship”.
He questioned why the fuss over waving the PLO flag, “which is recognized worldwide including in Knesset. I understand someone wants to investigate but I do not understand what there is to investigate” he explained.
MK Yoni Chetboun (Ha’Am Itanu) released a statement, “Sadly this is not a new phenomenon. There is a fifth column in Knesset. Only a strong large nationalist camp will bring an end to this. Don’t be mistaken. This undermines the very existence of Jews here. We must bring a halt to it and better sooner rather than later”.
