A Yeshiva Bochur studying in Eretz Yisrael from abroad asked Maran HaGaon HaRav Aaron Yehuda Leib Shteinman Shlita if he should file for citizenship to permit him to vote in the upcoming national elections. According to the Kikar Shabbos report, the gadol hador responded “yes”, that he should become a citizen to permit him to vote and “merit fulfilling the mitzvah”.
In the last elections a chosson asked the gadol hador if he should vote since his chupah was taking place on Election Day and voting would present somewhat of a difficulty. He too was instructed to vote.
