Over 40 days have passed since the barbaric slaughter of innocent victims in the shul located on Agassi Street in the Har Nof neighborhood of Yerushalayim, yet it appears the neighborhood has not returned to its routine as the wounds are healing slowly.
The local ‘minhelet’ council received many requests for assistance following the attack. Many parents reached out seeking professional guidance to assist them in providing the children with the tools to process the horrific events that occurred. According to the professionals, many of the children are suffering from anxiety since that day, unable to return to ‘life as usual’ following the attack.
Some parents report their children are acting out in school while others explain the worrisome behavior is evident at home as well.
Another kenos for parents was held this week to address the psychological trauma suffered by residents as a result of the attack. Dr. Forto Ben-Harush, an expert in dealing with pediatric psychological trauma took part in the event. He confirmed that there are still many requests for assistance for the community’s children.
The director of the local council, Oriel Elbaz told the media that they are sponsoring lectures, gatherings and workshops to assist residents in dealing with the trauma.
The council decided that it will assigning volunteers to assist the bereaved families and the families of the victims in their day-to-day routines as part of taking advantage of their entitlement for assistance via Bituach Leumi.
Elbaz explains the council’s hotline is always operating and he will continue doing what he can to assist victims in the hope they will return to their regular pre-attack lifestyle and routine.

PTD (post trauma disorder) is a real issue and must be dealt with properly. The importance of parents, teachers and those that work with children attending these seminars & conferences are essential.
YET even more important are classes given in the schools to the children themselves by professionals who are trained in this particular field.
