Yishai to Supporters: I Started a Party to Prevent an Oslo 3

yish[VIDEO IN EXTENDED ARTICLE]

Addressing a Sderot rally of supporters for his new Ha’Am Itanu party, Eli Yishai explained his decision to launch his own political party after breaking away from his home, the Shas party.

Yishai began by stating he or his people are not behind the release of the damaging video against Aryeh Deri. He stressed “this is not the way I operate”. He added the reason he launched his own party after breaking from Shas “Is to prevent an Oslo 3”.

Yishai stated “My way is Derech Eretz before the Torah. I chose to remain silent for I feel this is the correct response at present. They can turn from the beloved to the enemy and from being trusted by Maran to the traitor. I have a lot in my heart and there are times the truth must be told even if it is somewhat painful”.

He went on to explain that in his years of public service, there have been some extremely difficult times. He stressed the purpose of his party is to prevent chas v’sholom an Oslo 3, clearly distancing himself from the more left-wing hashkafa of Aryeh Deri.

  1. Just what we need is a fight between Chareidi politicians just when we were maybe getting some leverage. We need the real Jewish government of Moshiach under Torah, not the current system where Torah is merely some “special interest” or “voting bloc.”

  2. Every year more Charedim move beyond the ‘Green Line’ to Betar, Ramat Shlomo, Givat Zev, etc… & their attitudes lean towards right- wing security & attitude vis a vie ARABS.

  3. Let’s be dan l’chaf zechus. Perhaps he said that derech eretz is before Torah (“derech eretz kadma l’Torah”)and it was written up wrongly.

  4. Note is the time to make a חזית דתי, a united but technical front for all parties that Hashem and his Torah are important to them.
They can be a majority today.

    19, bait Yehudi
    9 shas, yachad
    8 the chareidim
36 all together, not bad, they can even gotten a government and rule.

    it’s about time

  5. If shas was smart they would leave Yishai alone. He isn’t Amsallem or Amnon Yizchak that they successfully derailed. Yishai has a huge voter body that hasn’t and won’t vote for shas. True, shas will lose some seats, but if the shas politicians were “leshem shamayaim” then nothing can be better that what Yishai is doing! He is bringing all those voters who would other wise vote for Bayit Hayehudi to a party under the chareidi banner.

Shas will only lose by attacking Yishai. Worse case scenario they will both not pass the electorate threshold. And that will only be Shas’ fault. Sefaradi voters have plenty of other parties to chose from and will run far away from machlokes.

  6. “Yishai stated “My way is Eretz Yisrael is before the Torah. ”

I am certain that this is a misquote. The writer should either change it or state where he got this from. This for sure cannot just slide.

  7. i guess saying that “I am in this because I am insulted that the rabbonim picked deri over me and I need power to maintain my ego” doesnt get votes.
I cannot imagine a logical reason why he needed to start his own party other than personal gain. there is little difference between his stance and the stance of shas. He is just weakening the charedi stance.

  8. thinkingclearly I also was shocked when I read that. I don’t believe he actually said that. It’s very uncharacteristic of Eli Yishai. I highly doubt this is an accurate quote.

  9. Yishai did NOT say Eretz Yisrael comes before the Torah. It is clear from the video posted at another website that he said “DERECH ERETZ comes before the Torah”, which is a famous expression used in other contexts.

Comments #3 and #4 are thus null and void.

  10. This is obviously a mistranslation!
Yishai wasn’t speaking English rather he was talking in Hebrew about the video release. He said ‘derech eretz kadma latorah’ but the translator wasn’t familiar with that phrase, so he wrote what he thought without checking.

  11. 1-Those words of Yishai must have been taken out of context. He probably meant that an Oslo type agreement would be against Torah.Did not hear his speech but anyone who knows anything about Eli Yishai knows that those words are totally not him.
2-Chareidim are more against giving back land than they once were simply because the Palestinians are not Egyptians. They have proven time and again that they do not want peace.

  12. ” there is little difference between his stance and the stance of shas”. — Your knowledge of the two parties and their agenda/outlook/goals is NON-EXISTENCE. There are major differences in the parties.

  13. I agree with #9

What is the difference if Yishai was to resign and his voters would all vote for another party or opening his own party and keep them together in chareidi party…
