Transportation Minister Yisrael Katz, who is a senior Likud official and close ally of Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, feels he is likely to become the next finance minister in the 20th Knesset. Speaking with Israel Radio’s Reshet Bet the minister explained he is likely to be tapped for the post after elections.
He told Israel Radio he will formulate a three-year plan that will address the housing problem, adding he has ideas and he plans to sit with Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and hammer them out.
“Yair Lapid received a huge mandate when selected to head the Housing Cabinet but he opted to work against the prime minister instead of cooperating with him. I will choose differently” Katz stated.

The Israeli Finance Ministry combines the functions of the American Secretary of the Treasury, with those of the Office of Management and Budget, and then some. Among the powers are to hand out government money to favorites (in the US, the Congress has to “earmark” to do that). Effectively, it’s the most powerful position after the Prime Minister.
This Katz fellow will be a loyal lap dog of Bibi, a very dangerous situation.
