The Bedouin reconnaissance soldier critically wounded by Gaza sniper fire near the border fence on Wednesday 2 Teves was almost pronounced dead but a persistent field doctor saved his life. Reports indicate the Gazan sniper fired from fairly close range and struck the soldier with a single bullet that almost claimed his life.
When the battalion physician arrived on the scene shortly after the attack, he quickly realized the patient was bleeding out and short of emergency surgery on the scene, he did not have a chance to survive. That being the case the doctors opened his chest and did what had to be done to stop the bleeding, permitting the soldier to be airlifted to the trauma unit of Soroka Hospital in Beersheva. As the surgery was taking place tank and artillery fire were directed into Gaza in retaliation and to provide cover for the medical team.
Due to the extent of the soldier’s injuries, the chopper pilot landed at the attack scene and not a distance away, placing himself in the line of fire too but the retaliatory fire provided cover until the soldier was airlifted. He remains in serious condition.

I hereby nominate this battalion Dr for the prestigious Israeli Pras award this coming year.
“… but a persistent field doctor saved his life…”
It was NOT the doctor who saved his life, but rather it was through the doctor’s efforts that HaShem saved his life.
Perhaps a more accurate copy should have read, “but through the persistent (valiant, selfless, dedicated) EFFORTS OF a field doctor HIS LIFE WAS saved…”
to those super-zionists who are calling for “transfer” of Arabs from Medinat yisrael: note the ethnicity of the soldier in the article
