Prosecutors: No Delayed Start in Marathon Bomber Trial

tsarFederal prosecutors are opposing a request by lawyers for Boston Marathon bombing suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev to delay his trial until September.

Jury selection is scheduled to begin Jan. 5. Tsarnaev could face the death penalty if convicted.

In a court filing Wednesday, prosecutors rejected complaints by the defense about the volume of material provided by the government as the trial approaches.

Prosecutors say much of that information was demanded by the defense and turned over voluntarily by the government.

Tsarnaev’s lawyers argued in their motion Tuesday that a September trial date would be more realistic given the “extraordinary complexity and international dimensions” of the case.

Two bombs at the finish line of the 2013 Boston Marathon killed three people and injured more than 260 others.
