Peres to Netanyahu: The Hungry are Not Fed with Declarations

biperFormer President Shimon Peres has once again come out against Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu as he continues assisting left-wing efforts ahead of national elections.

The release of the Latet poverty report earlier this week, which documented a far harsher picture than the annual Bituach Leumi report, seems to have sparked Peres’ attack on the prime minister.

Mr. Peres made his remarks at a forum dealing with hunger hosted by the Peres Peace Center. He mentioned the Latet report that sites there are 2.5 million Israelis living under the poverty line. “The poor hungry children and hungry elderly cannot be fed by declarations to the media” Mr. Peres stated. The former president added the report is a harsh indictment against Israeli society and this alarming situation must be placed atop of the agenda in the upcoming elections.

Likud officials call the Latet report “inflated”, pointing out it contradicts the official Bituach Leumi report that shows a slight reduction in poverty. They call the president’s statements “a transparent effort to take votes from the right and center and shift them to the left-wing. The left-wing leaders and Mr. Peres cannot succeed against Netanyahu regarding the economy, security and diplomatically. This is their crooked approach to win votes to permit the left-wing to make their concessions and withdrawals and thereby actualizing Peres’ dream of the past years”.
