A Panels Politics Institute poll commissioned by Maariv shows that Shas headed by Eli Yishai will earn more seats in the election than if the party is headed by Aryeh Deri.
The poll, which was released on Wednesday morning 18 Kislev shows that Yishai still brings the votes, more so than the current party leader. Shas maintains the poll was conducted over the internet and therefore, it fails to reflect the position of the real supporters and voters of the party.
The poll shows that if elections were held today and Deri remains the head of the party, Shas would receive seven seats as opposed to nine seats if the party is headed by Yishai. Maariv does not detail exactly what respondents were asked, only the results of the poll.
Former Shas party CEO and Yishai loyalist Nati Lasri told Kol Berama Radio on Wednesday morning that the poll’s results are not at all surprising. He added that one only needs to circulate among the people and hear what Shas voters really believe.

If you trust these pollsters ..enjoy
They said the same in the mid 70s regarding Menachem Begin
Lmai nafka mina? Deri isn’t stepping down.
This maay be true that Yishai is more popular, but if they don’t unite they’ll both lose the fight!!
Deri ,with all his flaws, built up the party, the ethnic pride, the school network, etc.
His feet just have to be to the fire to keep his behavior in line.
What did Yishai ever accomplish during his tenure as head of party (besides bringing in some ‘pork’)?
It’s “About Time”you need to stop talking schtooyot. All the ground work was NOT done by Deri but by others that weren’t interested in being in the “lime-light.” There was a lot of behind the scenes action that I’m not priveed to disclose. Deri stepped on a lot of toes otherwise there would have been a greater amount of MK’s in Shas. Highly unlikely you ever prayed in the Rav’s apartment or shul otherwise you would’ve seen how ‘beloved’ Deri wasn’t always present at Shabbat prayers and it wasn’t because he had his own minyan. There were a lot of people in the Rav’s minyan that did not like Deri as they perceived him as the snake he was. Try doing some reading why Rav Meir Mazuz, shlita in particular wanted to bring Rav Amsellem into the Shas fold. No other Rav within Shas has stood up for Deri, look and you shall not see.
Deri is so full of himself that he would never consider stepping down even if it was for the betterment of the party. You all have to look at his body language and it would tell you that he thinks that the world revolves around him. Netanyahu approached Deri and Deri remained seated – chutzpan!!! Deri has the same ethics as Lapid except Lapid has no beard.
Yishai puts on no airs, has never put on the crying act or played the talmid chacham part as he’s not a fraud like Deri. Yishai was a good IDF soldier and an equally good soldier to Chacham Ovadia, ztk”l when he was appointed not to step into Deri’s shoes but restore Shas to a respectable organization but that sheen has been worn thin by Deri’s shenanigans. Yishai is a likable person to work with and he will attract a lot more voters than Deri.
“About Time,” your clock is off tilt, you once again don’t know what your spouting. You actually saw Yishai bring in ‘pork?’ He allowed pork to be served at an event, maybe? I’m presuming with your ‘ruach hakodesh’ or a Shas party member, that you know all of the deficits of Eli Yishai? Since you have this magic ball, tell us all, where does Yishai pray everyday? How about Kabbalat Shabbat, Shabbat Shacharit, Shabbat Minha or Arbit on Motzei Shabbat? It’s *About Time*, you put your mouth and pen to rest.
Yishei increased support for SHAS in every city, Yishei used his social skills to build & better relationship with different sectors. Yishei delegates, respects & works with other party candidates. Have you noticed how any candidates have left under Deri?
espiritu-santo,
Anyone who battles for Judaism on a national and/or global scale is my ally, and vice versa.
You seem to be in that category,so it’s okay if you attack me on occasion.
Psalm 119:63
Sadly,it is much less common amongst “orthodox ” than we would wish.
