Israel: Law Passed to Permit Jailing Infiltrators

prisonThe Knesset on Monday 16 Kislev passed a law that permits incarcerating infiltrators into the country. While backers of the law admit it may not be ideal, they point out the alternative, releasing the illegals held in a southern detention center into the streets is far worse. Because of a High Court ruling, illegals kept in the southern detention facility must be released. The new law is in line with restrictions included in the High Court ruling.

The law will result in detainees being held in the Sharonim detention facility in the south for up to three months, and they will then be moved to Holot for up to 20 months. Seeking to deter hiring the illegals, primarily from Eritrea, to replace Israelis with cheap labor, the law also fines persons hiring the illegals.
