Interesting Poll: Herzog & Livni Overtake Netanyahu

bibA poll conducted by Panels Politics, a union between Labor party leader Yitzchak Herzog and The Movement party leader Tzipi Livni would lead to the combined ticket receiving 23 seats in elections. That would place the Labor-led ticket two seats ahead of Likud headed by Binyamin Netanyahu, which only receives 21 seats.

The poll was conducted for the Knesset Channel. Bayit Yehudi with Naftali Bennett at the head received 18 seats. Yisrael Beitenu headed by Avigdor Lieberman received 9 seats and Yesh Atid headed by Yair Lapid received 9 seats. The party headed by former Likud Minister Moshe Kahlon receives 9 seats.

Yahadut Hatorah earns an additional seat, moving to 8, and Shas headed by Aryeh Deri earns only 7 seats. Meretz headed by Zahava Gal-On receives 6 seats and the combined Arab parties 10 and Kadima headed by Shaul Mofaz is out of Knesset.

The poll shows if Herzog and Livni run independently, the results change as Likud receives 21, Bayit Yehudi 18, Labor 17, Yesh Atid 12, Yisrael Beitenu 10, Kahlon 10, Yahadut Hatorah 8, Shas 7, Meretz 7, Arabs 10 and The Movement is out of Knesset with Kadima.

  1. even with this “poll” labor wouldnt be able to form a majority

    this is the tally

    labor 23
    yesh atid 9
    kahlon 9
    meretz 6
    arabs 10

    total 57

it would be just like kadimah in the previous (one before this one) knesset

  2. 1. It is unlikely that Livni running as a junior member of the Labor list would bring more votes to the joint list then she would have gotten running alone. If Livni (an ex-Likudnik with a good revisionist heritage) wasn’t worth vote for on her own, joining the socialists would not make her more attractive.

    2. Unless Labor (meaning the left) was willing to include the Hareidim in the government, which would probably mean abolishing conscription (which would be popular among the Arabs), it is unlikely they could ever get the 61 seats to form a government – and the left has historically been very anti-hareidi.

  3. mbachur: Unless the left decided it was opposed to conscription. In return for a constitutional amendment (Basic law) abolishing compulsory military service, they could easily get the hareidim to jump on board (and in economic matters, the hareidim are fairly left wing to begin with).

Whenever you spout that mantra you ought to ,at the very least, divide between UTJ and Shas

The only Labor led gov’t(excluding the Shamir-Peres Unity Gov’t) that UTJ has sat in the past Sixty one years! was Ehud Barak in ’99,and they walked out after a few months.

Labor supported everything that Yesh Atid did, with the exception of the the Giyus Sanctions.
To support Labor R”l,on those circumstances would be

    ‘chus al kavod atzmo’

    But

‘ aino chus al kavod kono’

  5. If Netanyahu is no longer prime minister, he would receive enough pension to retire nicely, so don’t worry about Netanyohu, but do worry about the impoverished in Eretz Yisroel.
