PM Netanyahu Moving Over to the Chareidim

bi2In his address to the Globes Economic Conference, Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu sent a clear message, that he is heading in the direction of bringing chareidim into a coalition following elections. Mr. Netanyahu explained to the forum that he was not a chossid of the Zero VAT Bill sponsored by Yair Lapid, and instead of that bill, which he feels may have driven housing prices up, he is pushing through a bill for zero value added tax on essential products in the marketplace.

The latter is one of the two conditions announced by Shas leader Aryeh Deri to enter a coalition and the prime minister announced he is moving ahead with this plan “which will benefit millions of Israelis” as the prime minister put it. The second of Deri’s conditions is a 30 NIS/hour minimum wage, and Economy Minister Naftali Bennett has already begun moving that ahead.

Nevertheless, the chareidim are not openly committing to any party at this stage as the centrist/left-wing is working hard to form a coalition that would include the Labor, The Movement and Yesh Atid parties. It appears at this stage, about 100 days before elections for the 20th Knesset, that the chareidi parties will be in a pivotal role as Shas and Yahadut Hatorah will be needed for either side to form a coalition.

  1. Conscription of yeshiva students is the only issue that will matter. As long as the government is going ahead to introduce penal sanction (prison or fines) for refusing to serve in the army (rather than simply targetting government subsidies to veterans who learn in yeshiva, or supporting more hesder programs, etc.), there is no deal. If Likud wanted to work with the hareidim, they wouldn’t have needed to call elections.

  2. Netanyahu already said he is against jail or fines for Yeshiva students. Also, it was Lieberman who nixed the effort to avoid new elections. Netanyahu wanted to redo the gov’t without Lapid and Livni and add the Chareidi parties.

The bottom line is that elections have consequences. Lapid had to many seats and couldn’t be left out of the gov’t last time. We can only hope that it won’t be the case next time.

  3. To The Honorable Prime Minister of Israel,Mr. Biyamin Netanyahu,

Since most of all of the religious elements that make up the Israeli society go to their individuals rabbis for counseling on many matters, it behooves you as Prime Minister to convene a meeting of all of the Gedolim from all the religious sects (Sephardim, Litvish, Dati Leumi, Chabad, Bobov, etc) with none of the their MK’s present just their attendants. This is to be a serious meeting discussing tachless and you should expect that there’ll be a lot of demands and you can also voice your demands. Be prepared to for a demand to sign a document that holds you to no cut in funds to religious families or religious schools. Add stipends once the budget is approved for the new government. You must guarantee that no religious person once he has entered the IDF has to be subjected to mixed quarters with females. No female singing at any events or he is to be excused without discipline by his superior officer. You want religious soldiers, then you shall have them but not to abuse them. You also have to instruct the IDF that their kashrut standards have to be brought up to an accepted bar and no more shenanigans. You, Mr. Netanyahu have to work extra hard not to bring Arab lovers within your government. There are to be no compromises regarding giving up land for peace. You’ve already seen the tragic massacre in HarNof of the fine, upstanding religious young Jewish men while they were still praying with their tallitot and tefillin on by the subhuman primates. This MUST NOT be allowed to ever occur again – ever!!

So, are you ready to sign the document?

2)check my comment of almost weeks ago.
Netanyahu prefers another mandate before he abolishes the sanctions
