In a parliamentary system, unlike the presidential system in the US, one expects most voters to want to replace the prime minister. No candidate for prime minister as ever received 50% of the vote. Israelis vote for parties. Asking anyone who belongs to a party that is unlikely to join the coalition is totally irrelevant.
The polls sited suggests that Netanyahu is doing quite well if over a third of Israelis want him as prime minister, since only a quarter are considering voting for his party. The numbers also suggest strong support for Livni, even though most polls suggest she is having trouble get the four seats needed to stay in parliament.
In a parliamenty system with proportional representation, personal support is largely irrelevant, and American style polling (based on the two party presidential system) gives mislead results.
Your headline implies that the poll was to find out how many do not want Netanyahu. However, the numbers show that it was a poll of the various possible candidates for PM.
Netanyahu polled over THREE times the next contender.
Why don’t you write that 90% do NOT want Liberman, 90% do NOT want Herzog, 92% do NOT want Livni, etc, and ONLY 65% do not want Netanyahu?!
Why do you only say how many supposedly do not want Netanyahu (even though those polled were saying who they DO want, not who they do NOT want!)?
Is this “truth” in advertising, or just blatant misuse of the facts?
Disclaimer: I have and will continue to vote for a frum party. I am not pro or con Netanyahu. It’s just that the misleading headline and article bothered me.
If you are looking for perfection look take a good long look into the mirror and you won’t see it. If you’re looking for perfection in politicians, you’ll not see it as it does not exist. The last time there existed a perfect politician, it was with Moshe Rabaynu and he tried to be an excellent defender NOT a prosecutor. Even Shmuel HaNavi had a difficult time with dealing with Saul HaMelech and Shaul was talmid chacham. Politicians will be politicians, religious ones’ hopefully have a conscientious neshama. We would should all be thankful that there is a homeland that Jews can call ours in-spite of the rishaeem like Rabin, Sharon, Livni & the Lapid’s of this country. Look carefully at the candidates you think that are best suited for the position of Prime Minister and you will find that Netanyahu’s educational background, political background and also his short stint in the military adds to the portfolio of excellence. Look at the others and see if they during their service to Israel have held any business or governmental position that would’ve caused them to interact with international governments or businesses. There’s only one person on Shas’ roster that holds a Master’s degree in Business Administration but his services are not being utilized. All the other members have no formalized education. You also have a clown prison convict leading their agenda
Netanyahu is the best educated and experienced and this is why he the best suited & qualified to continue as the Prime Minister of Israel. Netanyahu was educated in the U.S. so he quite aware of the shenanigans and language of the Americans especially with the present day anti-Semitic US President and his administration. Realize that the newly elected prime minister whoever he is, is going to have to deal with the biting tongue of the US President and his equally hate-filled administration. Will the other contenders be able to hold their tongues like Netanyahu had or will they lash out and put the muslim-mouthed US President in his place? Will the new prime minister be willing to make it sure that Halacha is not compromised.
Before you vote for any of the candidates, you have to know that the candidate will not compromise on any Torah value, he will not give away any further land, he will keep Eretz Yisrael a Jewish country.
