A US Airways flight bound for Philadelphia made an unscheduled landing in Rome after some aboard complained of feeling ill.
Officials at Rome’s Leonardo da Vinci airport say two passengers and 11 crew members were examined at the airport’s first aid station for throat and eye irritation complaints Saturday. All were cleared to resume their journey and left on other flights.
What caused the symptoms was unclear.
American Airlines spokeswoman Martha Thomas says the airline is investigating the source of a rubbery odor aboard the Airbus A330. She said several flight attendants had detected an unusual odor.
Flight 797 had left Tel Aviv late Friday night with 129 passengers.
American Airlines and US Airways merged last year.
