New Israel Police Chief to Be Announced in the Coming Days


mishtDespite the announcement that elections will take place in Adar and the fact the current coalition government will next week become a transition government, Public Security Minister Yitzchak Aharonovich announced he will be announcing the new police chief by month’s end. He is not permitting the decision will not be postponed until after the formation of the next government. The appointment will include a rotation of most senior Israel Police command positions including a new chief and senior commanders in the Israel Prison Authority.

There will be a great deal of transition in Israel in the coming months as the 19th Knesset is ending its tenure and a new government will be formed following elections on 26 Adar. In addition to the police chief and Israel Prison Authority chief, Major-General Gadi Eizenkott will also become the new IDF chief of staff in February 2015, replacing IDF IDF Chief of Staff Lt.-Gen. Benny Gantz.
