Bratton: No Violence Anticipated Grand Jury Decision On NYPD Chokehold Death

egPolice Commissioner William Bratton says he doesn’t anticipate any violence in New York City once a grand jury decides whether to indict an officer in the chokehold death of Eric Garner.

A decision could come as early as Wednesday.

Bratton was asked on “CBS This Morning” if what happened in Ferguson, Missouri, could happen in New York.

He says the NYPD has been preparing for months “in multiple ways,” including community meetings.

Bratton says he’s more concerned with outside agitators and looking at what tactics they might employ.

Garner was stopped on suspicion of selling loose cigarettes in July. The black Staten Island man is shown on video telling officers to leave him alone before Officer Daniel Pantaleo used what appeared to be a banned chokehold. Pantaleo is white.

  1. Another solid job by main stream media this time from cbs this morning: “do you think what happened in ferguson could happen in nyc?” Uh, that already happened in ’91 when zookeeper dinkins let all the animals out of the zoo to run wild on crown heights for 3 days.
