Attorney General Yehuda Weinstein has given Chief Rabbinate of Israel Director-General Elchanan Glatt a three month extension in the hope a replacement will be found by the end of that period.
Weinstein signed the extension on Sunday night the eve of 9 Kislev hours before Glatt’s tenure was to expire.
Oded Viner, the previous director-general of the Chief Rabbinate completed his term in May 2014. Officials failed to find a candidate acceptable to all and therefore, Glatt, who was serving as the director-general of the Ministry of Religious Services was placed in the post temporarily. His tenure was extended in August and now once again.
