No Israeli Confirmation of Reported ISIS Abduction of Gill Rosenberg

grThere are conflicting reports regarding the abduction of Gill Rosenberg, 31, by ISIS. Ms. Rosenberg, who has a degree in aeronautical engineering arrived in Israel from Canada in 2006 and served in the IDF Homefront Command. Official state leaders commenting on the ISIS claim that they abducted Rosenberg from Syria stated that have no official word on the events other than what is reported in the media. Rosenberg traveled to Syria where she wished to link with Kurd fighters to combat against ISIS in November. According to reports she was taken hostage after three suicide attacks in the area she was in. There is no official word on her status. Foreign Ministry officials have announced they are looking into the reported incident.

Israel Radio interviews with two Kurdish fighters cast additional doubt on the integrity of the report for they said Rosenberg was never in the area of Kobani. In her last Facebook post, Rosenberg wrote on November 20 that someone would be managing her page for two weeks, asking people not to message her.

Rosenberg left her Tel Aviv home on November 2nd and stopped over in Amman and then traveled to Erbil, which is the capital of the Kurdistan region of Iraq. She told Israel Radio that it was important for her to be part of the struggle for the Kurdish and was hopeful that her experience in the IDF would prove an asset in her mission.
